If classsroom observations are objective and conducted by an effective evaluator thay can be instrumental in improving the instructional program. While observations are necessary, they are also very time consuming. This handbook can help the evaluator by providing a consistent and thorough format for looking at the activities that may take place in a classroom during a visitation.
The "Classroom Observation Worksheet" may be duplicated and used by the evaluator as a checklist during the visit. When it is time to complete the written observation the contents of the handbook can be used to assist in the selection of key ideas and phrases.
The suggestions used in the handbook are all positive in nature and should be adapted to the individual being evaluated. If it is necessary to be constructive or critical, the phrases can be easily modified by adding (needs to) (should) (does not) etc.
